Nestled in a privileged position in the lush Louet valley where daily life crisscrosses the Béarn (64 – Pyrénées Atlantiques) and the Bigorre (65 – Hautes Pyrénées). Wander through the verdant landscapes of these ancient regions and explore the heart of their “terroir”; sample the delights of the cuisine of the deep South-West France and the wine of the Madiran & Vic-Bilh or explore the Pyrénées foothills and mountains.
What can I do?
We are in the lovely Madiran/Vic-Bilh wine region near Pau with good food and good wine and beautiful views of the central Pyrenees and surrounding countryside.
Staying with us is an opportunity to escape a hectic lifestyle and do “nothing” or you can venture out to attractions within the local area or further afield.
As we are in a rural area, you will need a car or bicycle to get around. Here is a short summary of what is available to visitors:
For Marciac Jazz
Experience the world-famous jazz festival in July/August each year. There is also a
permanent concert hall, L’Astrada, open at other times of the year.
For wine lovers
The vineyards of Madiran and Pacherenc Vic Bilh (10 minutes); St Mont (30 minutes),
Côte de Gascogne (30 minutes) and Jurançon (1 hour). Madiran has a large festival in
August, with open days (portes ouvertes) in November. Wineries including Cave de
Crouseilles and Château Montus host their own events.
For pilgrims and walkers
We are situated directly on the St Jacques de Compostella walk (Chemin St. Jacques
via Arles) on the stage from Maubourguet (Hautes Pyrénées) to Anoye (Pyrénées
Atlantiques). Lourdes is easily accessible as a day trip by car.
For food lovers
Weekly local produce markets in Lembeye, Madiran, Marciac, Morlaàs, Maubourguet,
and Vic-en-Bigorre. There are also permanent markets (with food courts) at Halles de
Pau and Tarbes (40 mins). Visitors can sample local cuisine at a range of local country
restaurants and bars.
For mountains and spas
The spa towns of Argeles-Gazost, Bagneres-de-Bigorre and Cauterets are easily
accessible for day trips. the Caliceo spa in Pau is 30 mins.
For children and teenagers
Animal parks to forest zip wires and water sports are among the activities open to
young people. Pic du Midi (with its observatory); Cauterets’ cable car, the Grottes
de Betharram and Hautacam (walking, picnic and luge) are all accessible day trip activities in the mountains (by car). In summer
there are also many local festivals
For serious cyclists

- Explore the lanes and rolling hills of Madiran/Vic-Bilh and the Gers.
- Ride across the Ger plain in front of Pyrénées to reach the mountains
- Reach for peaks and central Pyreneean valleys: Lourdes and Vallée des Gaves; Tarbes & Haute Bigorre and Pau & Vallée d’Ossau. Further afield is Oloron Sainte Marie & Vallée d’Aspe.
- Follow key stages of the Tour de France when the race comes to the Pyrénées.

How do you get to us?
Situated at the meeting point of the Pyrénées Atlantiques/Bearn (64) Hautes
Pyrénées/Bigorre (65) and Gers (32) departments in southern Gascony
(south-west Occitanie and southern Aquitaine).
About 45 minutes from Lourdes-Tarbes-Pyrénées and Pau Pyrénées
airports. Ryanair serves Lourdes (LDE) including regular flights from London
Stansted and Dublin.
Connection to A64 (Biarritz/Toulouse) and A65 (Pau/Bordeaux) motorways.
